Osprey – US Mechanized Infantryman In The First Gulf War
By Gordon L Rottman.
The end of the Vietnam War left the US Army a spent force. Plagued by low morale and terrible public relations, the army faced an uphill struggle to rebuild itself. Recognizing that the key to winning future conflicts lay in professional, highly mobile forces that could be delivered quickly to battle, the army adopted the mechanized infantryman as its new front line soldier. The all volunteer force was highly trained and superbly equipped – most notably, with the new M2 Bradley IFV – and they got their first test in the First Gulf War.Â
This account details the experience of those soldiers who fought in the deserts of Kuwait and Iraq, and who proved that the US Army was once again a force to be reckoned with.
